Speaker Biographies
Mr. Phil Addante, MSW, LCSW,
is an experienced therapist in private practice and an adjunct
faculty member at the University of St. Mary of the Lake, Mundelein
Seminary.
Mr. John Barsotti holds a master's degree
in counselor education from Northern Illinois University and
a degree in psychology from DePaul University. He is an active
parishioner at Sacred Heart Parish in Lombard.
Fr. Britto Berchmans is pastor of St. Nicholas
Parish in Evanston. He holds a PhD in mass communication from
the University of Illinois, as well as master's degrees in physics,
journalism, and theology.
Honorable Paul Biebel is the presiding judge
of the Criminal Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County.
He was the recipient of the Evans Scholarship and the Bellarmine
Scholarship, and is a graduate of Marquette University and Georgetown
University Law Center.
Dr. Christie Billups is a full-time jail minister
with Kolbe House Jail Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
She holds a doctorate in ministry and a master's in pastoral
studies from Catholic Theological Union, as well as a master's
in teaching from National Louis University.
Fr. Patrick Brennan is pastor of Holy Family
Parish in Inverness and president of the National Center for
Evangelization and Parish Renewal. An author and practicing
psychotherapist, he holds a doctorate in clinical psychology.
Dr. Michael Cahill is a certified financial
planner with a PhD in history from the University of Chicago.
He has taught courses at Mundelein Seminary and the Newberry
Library, and was on the Archdiocesan Pastoral Council for 5
years, the last two as Chair.
Fr. Guillermo Campuzano-Velez trabaja en Ministerio
de Universidad, enseña estudios Católicos y tiene
una maestría en servicios públicos de la Universidad
de DePaul. También es consejero del Proyecto Arquidiócesano
de Chicago para jóvenes latinos.
Mr. David Carbajal tiene Licenciatura en Ciencias
Religiosas en la Univ. del Valle de Atemajac, en Guadalajara,
Méx. Estudió Filosofía en el Seminario
de la Inm. Concepción en San Juan de los Lagos, Méx.
Sirvió en Sta. Inés de Bohemia ayudando a crear
el grupo de “Jornadas de Vida Cristiana”. Enseñó
religión en nivel universitario.
Mr. Marlow Colvin is a State Representative
with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Chicago State
University. He has been an assistant captain in the 6th precinct
for the 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization for the past
10 years. He is the past Chairman of the Young Democrats of
Illinois and Young Democrats of America. When he was appointed,
Marlow worked as an administrator in the Office of the Cook
County Assessor.
Ms. Keara Coughlin holds a master's degree
in divinity from the University of Notre Dame. She is the director
of Young Adult Ministry at Old St. Patrick's Church.
Fr. John Cusick is the director of Young
Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago and on staff at
Old St. Patrick’s Church. Ordained in 1970, he served
as a faculty member of Niles College Seminary and spent 7 years
as associate pastor at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church.
Ms. Mary Deeley has a Master of Divinity,
Yale Divinity School; Ph.D. in Hebrew Scripture and Early Christian
Literature, Northwestern University in the Joint Program for
Religious and Theological Studies. Currently, Mary serves as
the Pastoral Associate for Sheil Catholic Center at Northwestern
University in Evanston.
Fr. Eddie DeLeon, CMF has a Masters in Liturgy
from CTU and a Nonprofit Management degree from Northwestern
University Kellogg Center. He was Co-Director of Casa Claret
in Missouri and Director of campus ministry for several Universities.
Fr. DeLeon is now the provincial Superior of the Claretian Eastern
Province.
Dr. Katherine F. DeVries is the associate
director of Young Adult Ministry for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
She holds a doctorate in ministry from Catholic Theological
Union, and master's degrees in divinity, pastoral studies, and
special education.
Sra. Dora Díaz tiene un asociado en
administración de empresas. Dora es una joven adulta
asesora del pastoral juvenil en el Vicariato III de la Arquidiócesis
de Chicago.
Ms. Marilu Gonzalez is the coordinator for
Pastoral and Social Concerns at the University of Notre Dame
Institute for Latino Studies’ Metropolitan Chicago Initiative.
She is pursuing a master's degree from Catholic Theological
Union.
Fr. John Grace is the director of Campus Ministry
at Virginia Tech. He had served at Old St. Mary's in Chicago
and James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA, and has been
on the staff of the USCCB's Campus Ministry Leadership Institute
for the past 5 years.
Mr. Frank Hannigan is the director of the
Family Ministries Office for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Frank
has a BS from Loyola University and an MA from Chicago State
University. Previously, he was the director of the Cana Conference
of Chicago.
Mr. Brian Hengesbaugh, husband of Mary-Louise
Kurey, is a partner at Baker & McKenzie law firm. He is
a member at St. Clement Church and a cofounder of a Men's Faith
Sharing Group, as well as a sponsor/mentor for LINK Unlimited.
Mr. Paul Jarzembowski is the director of Young
Adult Ministry for the Diocese of Joliet and acting executive
director for the National Catholic Young Adult Ministry Association.
Paul is a graduate student at the Institute of Pastoral Studies
at Loyola University Chicago.
Fr. Frank Jenks most recently served as pastor
of St. Alphonsus in Lemont. Previously, as pastor of Ascension
Parish in Oak Park, he directed adult retreats and formation
days. He has also worked at St. Mary of Vernon, Our Lady of
Perpetual Help, and Our Lady of the Wayside Churches.
Ms. Womazetta Jones, Director of the Office
of Safe Environment, Archdiocese of Chicago.
Fr. Terry Keehan, ordained in 1986, is pastor
of St. Matthias and Transfiguration parishes in Chicago's Lincoln
Square and Ravenswood neighborhoods. Previously he worked in
the Vocation Office for the Archdiocese of Chicago.
Ms. Beth Knobbe works at Northwestern University's
Sheil Catholic Center, coordinating retreats and fellowship
activities for undergraduate students. She is currently writing
her first book, Finding My Voice: A Young Adult Woman’s
Perspective(St. Anthony Messenger Press, 2009).
Mrs. Mary-Louise Kurey serves as the director
of the Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago. She
has more than 10 years of leadership in the pro-life movement
and professional speaking.
Mr. & Mrs. Andrew & Terry Lyke from
the Archdiocesan Office of Family Ministries - Marriage Education
Fr. Patrick Marshall is the director of the
John Paul II Catholic Newman Center at the University of Illinois
at Chicago. He has a master's of divinity from St. Mary of the
Lake and a master's in social work from the University of Illinois
at Chicago. He is a certified addictions counselor.
Sr. Marybeth Martin holds a BS in special
education, a master's in pastoral studies, and two certificates
in spiritual direction. She is a spiritual companion and retreat
leader for young adults in the Chicago area and a member of
the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ.
Mr. Marco Matonich is a pastoral associate
and director of Liturgy and Evangelization at Divine Providence
Parish in Westchester. He holds a BA in music and theater and
an MPS in pastoral studies and is the regional coordinator for
the Adult Confirmation Process for Vicariate IV of the Archdiocese.
Fr. Patrick McGrath, SJ, is a Jesuit of the
Chicago Province. He serves as the Provincial Assistant for
Secondary Education for the Chicago Province of the Society
of Jesus. He holds a BA and an M.Div. On weekends, he presides
at Old St. Patrick's Church.
Fr. David G. Monaco, CP is a Passionist priest
originally from New York City who teaches theology at Dominican
University. He holds a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture from the
Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and is a graduate of Catholic
Theological Union.
Dr. Terry Nelson-Johnson is director of faith
formation at Old St. Patrick’s Church. For 18 years, he
was on the faculty of Loyola Academy. He holds a doctorate in
ministry from the University of St. Mary of the Lake.
Fr. Stephen Newton, a priest of the Congregation
of Holy Cross, has served at the University of Notre Dame, at
the University of Illinois at Chicago, in East Africa, and in
Portland, Oregon. He is director of Faith Formation at St. Emily
Parish and directs the Institute for Central and East Africa
Rehabilitation.
Fr. William O’Shea is retired from the
Diocese of Joliet, living in Chicago and working weekends at
Old St. Patrick's Church. He has taught scripture and ethics
at Rosary College and grew up in St. Philip Neri Parish in Chicago.
Mr. Gregory F. Augustine Pierce is the president
and copublisher of ACTA Publications and author of Spirituality
at Work (Loyola Press, 2001) and The Mass Is Never Ended (Ave
Maria Press, 2007).
Dr. Amanda Quantz is an assistant professor
of the History of World Christianity Program at Catholic Theological
Union. She holds an MTS. from Harvard Divinity School and a
PhD from the University of St. Michael’s College.
Ms. Elsie Radtke is an associate director
for the Family Ministries Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
She teaches relationship education and is a family life minister,
coach, mediator, and coauthor of the book Divorce and Beyond:
A Workbook for Recovery and Healing (ACTA, 2004).
Mr. Jorge Rivera is the coordinator of the
Hispanic Young Adult Ministry under the Office of Hispanic Catholics
for the Archdiocese of Chicago. He is also a member of the National
Catholic Network of Hispanic Young Adults.
Dr. Kelly Schilder Ray provides counseling
to adults experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions
(including separation, divorce, and bereavement), relationship
issues, and the death of a loved one. Her specialty is in assisting
those with eating disorders.
Mr. Douglas B. Scott, a psychotherapist at
Catholic Charities in Chicago, is an experienced counselor and
licensed clinical social worker. He has extensive experience
in leading trainings about team building, the enneagram, motivational
interviewing, centering prayer, and personality development.
Ms. Melody Spann Cooper Chairman, Midwest
Broadcasting and President, WVON Radio, Chicago
Dr. Lynn Stasior, MD, is a physician specializing
in internal medicine. She holds a master's degree in pastoral
studies from Loyola University. Lynn has a special interest
in integrating spirituality into patient care.
Sr. Theresa Sullivan, a Daughter of Charity
over 25 years, is the executive director of St. Joseph Services.
She has used her nursing and administrative skills to assist
the poor. Her accomplishments include establishing health clinics,
a parish nurse program, and ESL programs.
Ms. Maricela Verduzco has volunteered with
the Office of Hispanic Young Adults of the Archdiocese of Chicago
for 4 years. She has a BA in psychology and is pursuing an MA
in traditional Chinese medicine and massage therapy.
Fr. Michael Wanda was ordained a priest for
the Archdiocese of Chicago in 1991. He is currently pastor of
Divine Infant Parish in Westchester.
Mr. Todd Williamson is the director for the
Office for Divine Worship with the Archdiocese of Chicago. He
is an author and presenter in the areas of liturgy and sacraments
and has ministered in the Archdiocese of Chicago teaching religion
and theology.
